01

Confirm language instead of assuming it

Albanian is widely used in Kosovo and Albania; North Macedonia is multilingual, and Macedonian or Albanian may matter depending on the customer and location. Ask which language the other party prefers and put technical terms in writing.

  • Confirm the language of the quote and invoice
  • Translate technical terms that could be misunderstood
  • Never equate language with professional ability
02

Currency and total cost

Kosovo uses the euro, Albania the lek, and North Macedonia the denar. For cross-border quotes, state the currency, exchange rate or rate date, taxes, travel, and payment method. Never leave the currency symbol implicit.

03

Verify identity in the correct register

Use ARBK for Kosovo, QKB for Albania, and the Central Registry for North Macedonia. A legal-name and status check does not replace a professional licence check where the work requires one.

  • Legal name and registration number
  • Active status
  • Address and registered activity
  • Professional licence where applicable
04

One workflow that works in all three countries

Send the same scope to several businesses, request a written quote, set checkpoints, and document changes. Personal rapport helps, but a clear agreement protects both parties.

  • Scope and expected outcome
  • Materials and responsibilities
  • Deadline and payment stages
  • Change and complaint process
05

Work with the person, not a stereotype

Punctuality, formality, and preferred communication channel vary more by person and sector than a border can explain. Ask about expectations, summarise decisions, and allow a realistic response time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same contract in all three countries?

You can reuse a work structure, but local law, taxes, currency, and professional requirements must be checked separately.

Which language is safest?

The language both parties understand clearly. For agreements with legal or financial consequences, use professional translation when needed.

Is a business-register check enough?

Not always. It confirms identity and status; some professions require a licence, insurance, or additional documents.
